Atticus Law, P.C.

Reinventing how Americans seek and find legal help for crises like disability and workers' comp.

Company Profile

Reinventing Legal Aid for Americans in Crisis

Atticus is a digitally native public-interest law firm on a mission to tear down barriers between people in crisis and the aid they deserve. Founded in 2018, the company operates as a unique hybrid: a licensed law firm that leverages technology to help individuals navigate complex systems like Social Security Disability, workers' compensation, and VA benefits. To date, Atticus has helped hundreds of thousands of people access over $10 billion in life-changing aid. Backed by top investors like Forerunner Ventures, GV (Google Ventures), and True Ventures, Atticus closed its Series C in April 2025, growing its team to over 210 employees.

A Culture of Mission-Driven Ownership

At Atticus, the culture is deeply rooted in its status as a certified B Corporation tackling critical social problems. The team comprises a diverse mix of legal experts, software engineers, product managers, and client experience advocates who share a common goal: fixing the "UX" of the country's safety net. Ownership is key to their success, which is why every employee receives equity. The environment is collaborative and fast-paced, blending the rigorous regulatory compliance of a law firm with the rapid iteration and innovation of a Series C tech startup.

What You'll Actually Do

Working at Atticus means replacing outdated call centers and antiquated CRMs with modern, scalable software. For Engineers, the focus is on building a robust platform using a modern stack that includes React, Next.js, TypeScript, Golang, BigQuery, and Google Cloud. You'll work closely with the in-house law firm to turn complex legal workflows into intuitive tools. Data Engineers and Data Scientists are tasked with owning core data infrastructure, optimizing pipelines, and enabling model-driven decision making. Product Managers act as conductors, coordinating across teams to match clients with the best law firms and optimize outreach strategies.

Compensation & Benefits

Atticus offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both personal and professional growth. Base salaries are strong: Software Engineers typically earn $157K–$230K, and Lead Data Engineers see ranges of $174K–$230K. Every role includes company equity. Standout benefits include 100% employer-covered medical and dental premiums for employees and their families, 15 vacation days plus roughly 20 paid holidays, a $600/year internet stipend, a $1,000 education stipend, and up to $1,200/year in student loan repayment assistance.

The Interview Process

The interview process at Atticus is thorough and designed to ensure alignment with both technical requirements and the company's mission. Candidates can expect 3 to 5 rounds of interviews. The process typically begins with a recruiter screen, followed by a simulation or technical assessment tailored to the role. Final rounds often involve deep dives into past experiences, behavioral questions, and extensive conversations with cross-functional team members. Some candidates have noted that the final stages can be lengthy, reflecting the company's commitment to finding the right fit for their collaborative environment.

Why Join / Why Not

Why Join: If you want your work to have a direct, tangible impact on people's lives, Atticus is an exceptional place to be. The combination of a strong social mission, solid funding (Series C), and the opportunity to modernize a massive, legacy industry is rare. The fully remote setup, paired with regular company-paid trips to Los Angeles, offers great flexibility.

Why Not: The intersection of technology and legal services is inherently complex and heavily regulated. If you prefer working in a pure tech environment without the nuances of legal compliance and operational heavy-lifting, this might not be the right fit. Additionally, the rigorous, multi-round interview process and the expectation to tackle deeply entrenched bureaucratic systems require a high level of resilience and patience.
