Alloy Enterprises Inc

Advanced aluminum additive manufacturing for high-performance thermal management.

Company Profile

Breaking Through the Heat Wall

Cooling performance limits high-power computing, semiconductor fabrication, and most of our digital world. Alloy Enterprises, a Boston-area hardtech startup founded in 2020, enables customers to break through these constraints with novel complex metal components that dramatically improve heat dissipation in high-performance systems. Their patented Stack Forging™ process enables complex micro-geometries, resulting in single-piece, leak-tight parts that deliver superior cooling performance, lower pressure drops, and exceptional reliability. In February 2026, Johnson Controls announced the acquisition of Alloy Enterprises to strengthen its data center thermal management leadership, bringing this innovative technology to a massive global scale.

A Culture of Startup Hardtech

Alloy Enterprises operates with the speed and agility of a startup while tackling complex physical engineering challenges. The culture is built around an interdisciplinary team of "startup veterans who are no strangers to hard tech." Employees describe the environment as one where they "work with an interdisciplinary team to design and implement Alloy’s software throughout its lifecycle" and where "end-users are in the building, and there are many opportunities for rich collaboration." The team values strong communication, flexibility, and the desire to “wear many hats.”

What You'll Actually Do

Depending on your role, your day-to-day will involve deep technical challenges at the intersection of hardware and software. Software engineers might co-design a software suite that runs end-to-end workflows for Alloy’s novel Stack Forging™ manufacturing process, develop 3D algorithms to improve part accuracy, or create 2D motion and path planning algorithms to improve the throughput of Alloy’s Construct machine. Hardware and manufacturing roles focus on the physical realization of these advanced cooling components, operating CNC machinery or conducting thermal-fluids simulations to optimize performance.

Compensation & Benefits

Alloy offers a competitive startup compensation package. For example, the Senior Software Engineer role lists a pay range of $125,000–$160,000 annually. Benefits include 20 days of paid time off, 2 floating holidays, and 9 company holidays. The company provides medical, dental, and vision insurance (including dependency coverage), a 401k with a 3% employer contribution, and stock options. Additional perks include paid parental leave, regular happy hours, and weekly team lunches.

The Interview Process

While specific interview rounds are not detailed publicly, candidates can expect a process typical of deep-tech startups: a mix of technical assessments (likely focusing on C++, computational geometry, or specific hardware skills depending on the role) and behavioral interviews to ensure alignment with their fast-paced, "wear many hats" culture. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the work, cross-functional interviews with team members from different departments are highly probable.

Why Join / Why Not

Why Join: If you are passionate about solving real-world physical problems and want to work on technology that directly impacts the future of AI infrastructure and data centers, Alloy is an incredible place. The recent acquisition by Johnson Controls provides the backing of a massive global player while maintaining the innovative edge of the original team.

Why Not: The roles generally require 4 days onsite per week in Burlington, MA, which may not suit those looking for fully remote work. Additionally, the hardtech environment requires a tolerance for ambiguity and the physical constraints of manufacturing, which is different from pure software development.
