Abby Care

AI-powered platform empowering family members to become paid, certified caregivers.

Company Profile

Empowering Family Caregivers with AI

Abby Care is a healthcare technology startup based in San Francisco that is tackling one of the most pressing challenges in the US: family caregiving. Founded in 2021 by Havi Nguyen, the company operates an AI-powered platform that trains, certifies, and employs family members to care for children with disabilities or special needs. By navigating the complexities of Medicaid and home health regulations, Abby Care allows family members to become certified nursing assistants (CNAs) or home health aides, getting paid for the vital work they already do. The company recently raised a $35 million Series A led by Sequoia Capital, Thrive Capital, and Khosla Ventures, and is rapidly expanding its footprint across multiple states.

A Culture of Urgency with Precision

At Abby Care, the mission is deeply personal. The culture is built around five core values: Families First, Urgency with Precision, Relentlessly Resourceful, Purpose with Positivity, and Driven to Redefine What's Possible. Because millions of families are waiting for care, the team operates with a high degree of urgency, matching the critical needs of their patients. However, this speed is balanced with precision, as they deliver exceptional care without compromising on quality or compliance. The team is described as ambitious and resourceful, adapting quickly to solve challenges creatively in a highly regulated environment.

What You'll Actually Do

Work at Abby Care varies significantly by department, but all roles are united by the goal of scaling care delivery.

- Engineering & Product: You will build "AbbyOS" and "AbbyAid," the core AI-native platforms that surface clinical insights, track patient outcomes, and streamline care operations. This involves translating complex, real-world care workflows into intuitive, reliable software, often integrating AI for decision support and automation.

- Clinical & Operations: You will manage the on-the-ground reality of care delivery. This includes everything from RN Case Managers overseeing care plans to General Managers driving state-level expansion and operations teams ensuring compliance and smooth payroll execution for family caregivers.

Compensation & Benefits

Abby Care offers competitive compensation packages with a strong emphasis on equity for corporate roles. Based on public job postings, a Product Manager for AI-Native Care can expect a base salary of $140K–$225K, while a Senior Software Engineer range is $150K–$190K, and a Principal Engineer can earn $250K–$280K. Clinical and operational roles vary by location and scope. The company provides comprehensive benefits, covering 90% of employee health premiums and 70% for dependents, generous PTO, 10 paid holidays, and paid parental leave.

The Interview Process

While specific interview rounds are not widely publicized, candidates can expect a rigorous process that assesses both technical execution and mission alignment. Given the company's focus on "high-ownership, execution-driven" individuals, product and engineering candidates will likely face deep-dive sessions on system design, past project ownership, and how they navigate ambiguity. Expect behavioral interviews focused on resourcefulness and how you handle urgency in a fast-paced, regulated startup environment.

Why Join / Why Not

Why Join: If you are deeply motivated by social impact and want to build technology that directly improves the lives of vulnerable families, Abby Care offers a unique opportunity. The company is backed by top-tier investors (Sequoia, Khosla), has a proven business model that aligns incentives across families, states, and the company, and is in a high-growth phase.

Why Not: This is not a relaxed, 9-to-5 job. The company explicitly states that they operate with high urgency because "families cannot wait." If you prefer a slow-paced environment or are uncomfortable with the ambiguities and regulatory hurdles of the healthcare sector, this might not be the right fit. Additionally, corporate roles in San Francisco require 4 days in the office, which may deter those seeking fully remote work.
